Triptych of The Harvest

This is a box that I made to submit to a traveling show of women artists who are making art about corn.

Un Chemin en Provence

I did this 8x10 plein air when we were in France. I just sent it to an alumni art show at my former high school and it sold for $500. I was really pleased.

Cat - Fourth session

This was from a couple of days ago. I'm headed into the painting room now to work on it some more.

Blocks to Marian (finally)

I finally framed this for my sister-in-law. We'll take it to Tucson next week.

View from the Front Porch

This is an 1 1/2 hour study. As soon as I photograph it I can see areas I should change - the clouds started out with more color. I think as I mixed the purples and yellows I ended up with a little more grey than I intended. I also think the second layer of trees could use some more definition and I'm considering taking out the light spot poking through between the mountains and the sky. When I hold my finger over it, I think I like it better since it keeps the darks in the middle of the painting all together. Hmmm.... this snow has really got me going lately. I think it's because it simplifies the shapes and makes it easier for me to see patterns.
I just added the second photo.

Moonset

The photo on the bottom is the painting I started at Jane's on Friday - early morning moonset this past month. It just didn't "read" correctly and I realized when I looked at the photos again that the value of the snow should be lighter than the value of the sky. The top photo is the latest version.

Okay, Jane - another change....

Jane had suggested I brighten the light at the back. To make the streak of light in the back stand out enough I had to darken the whole foreground and reduce the contrast of the front shadow and the highlights on the trail. I think this photo actually looks darker than it really is. I'm beginning to think I should have done two paintings of the same scene, each with a different focus.

Today's work on the Carpet

Today I went over to Betty's house and photographed her carpet from a low angle. Then I started experimenting with different designs - too many times on the canvas! But I think I like it better with the carpet although I will probably change the designs in the front some more. Then I'll work on the cat again and bring it up to a more finished level. Off to Las Cruces tomorrow so no painting for a couple of days.
