Today's work on the Cat

I worked on this a little today - not ready to quit but it's time to get some dinner on the table. Tomorrow....

Yesterday's Painting Session

Jane and I painted together yesterday in P.A. I always feel so optimistic when I start a painting. That's why I have lots and lots of unfinished ones - ha! The cat belongs to one of my neighbors. I wanted to have a cat painting to add to my dog images before putting out a flyer for pet portraits. That was one of my goals this year - to actually offer services at the vet offices and boarding facilities and see what happens.

Faces and details

I was working on the faces and skin of the women today. So frustrating. Trying to get an eye right takes me forever. Then I look at it and know it needs to come out. I want to go back to these women and take pictures of them again just posing for me and maybe even bring the painting and try to do it right there in their yard.

Canyon Painting

I had such high hopes for this one when I did the underpainting. After working on it today and looking back at the first day's photo, I like the underpainting better! Hmm...maybe because I'm working on a sun drenched painting while it's snowing like crazy outside. At any rate, I'll put it aside and come back to it another day.

More shadows

I keep increasing the darks to see how far I can go. Today in the car driving to pick up the girls I realized that because the picture was taken during Day of the Dead at the end of October, there could be corn still growing around this field. I want to try adding corn stalks in the adjacent field.
Tomorrow.

Women Planting

I have finally, today, gotten back to painting. I decided to start with the earth then the flowers and the agave. I also worked on the mountains.

Marian's Blocks

These are antique blocks that belong to my sister-in-law. The "P" is for Polglase, "M" for Marian, "D" for Don and the little blocks are for their three children (all grown now with kids of their own). I'm taking a break from this one for a while - way too picky and way too small! I should have made them twice as big. The piece is 6x8 so the blocks are about life size. I'll come back and clean up some edges and make corrections when it dries some more.
