A tree in Guadalupe

This is a painting I have been working on plein air. My friend Judith and I have spent two 3 hour sessions in this field and we will do one more session this coming Friday. Any suggestions? Composition etc?

Blue Sky near Cortez, Colorado

Had a short painting session over at Jane's today. This is from one of the many photos I snapped out the window of the truck as we were driving from Meeker to Taos last week. I've really been into blue skies lately! This is a 6x6.

Second Session

I worked on the dog and put a second layer on the sky. I keep changing the sheep - I need to let it dry a little before proceeding. The sheep on the left need to be larger and the fat sheep on the right needs to be thinned down some. Then I'll work on color and detail. Also, I experimented with blue "sky holes" between their legs instead of green and I like it - makes it look like they're coming up over a hill. So when it is dry, I think I'll add some blue.

I haven't posted in a while. These are a few studies I have been working on. The first one will include a man plowing with his bulls.

Wednesday's Painting Session with Jane

Today Jane came over to my side of the mountain and we had an afternoon painting session. Jane did two 5x7 landscapes working with more subtle greys. I think she was quite successful. I blocked in a second design with sheep (possible entry in the Meeker Sheepdog art contest) that's not quite as ominous as the dark one with the big eyes.

I took out the big tree on the right and changed the shapes some. There is quite a bit of glare on the photos from my poor lighting so the photo doesn't represent my painting that well. Still the basic idea is there.
