Birthday Cupcake

Birthday lunch tomorrow for my friend, Rebecca. Decided to attempt a "quick" study of a cupcake - that meant 4 hours for this 6 x 8. I started with only one cherry on top but liked doing them so I got carried away and kept adding more. At least I painted today.

Yellow Tulips 1

When I got together with Jane last week, we felt we needed to just get back into the feel of painting without thinking too much so we picked small paintings to copy. This one started out as one of Julian's daffodils but when I got home I bought some tulips and painted them in. I'm going to do another one of the tulips with a light background. I'm interested in practicing on the hard shiny quality of glass along side the soft edges of the flowers. I'm going to have to work on a better arrangement of leaves in the next one.

Wilson's Dog

This is the final version (I hope) of the dog I started weeks ago.

The Harvester

This is a sketch for a bigger painting.  I wanted to work out the color palette.  I am still considering other options for the clothing of the women in the background.

Wooden Horse

This is a Christmas ornament I left out when packing up the Christmas decorations. I was trying to get the feeling of the wood in this painting. Now it's back to the TV to watch the inauguration!
Note: After posting the first photo, a few areas jumped out at me that just had to be fixed - so I painted a little more and photographed it again! We're never satisfied - ha! ~Gay)

Dog Face (photo and underpainting)

This is an 8 x 8 study that I've just started of the small photo that was sent to me (see photo above). The owner had requested a 20 x 20 painting of their dog but with only this reference I was hesitant to do a large one without first trying out a smaller version. I'm going to work on this one today so I'll send you an update next week. ~Gay

The Line Up

Happy New Year! I'm back in the painting room and am working on several small paintings.
