This is a box that I made to submit to a traveling show of women artists who are making art about corn.
Three friends, all painters - Elizabeth Downer, Jane Seavers, and Gay Marks. We live in in two countries and three towns. We decided to use this blog to keep us connected and motivated to paint by sharing our work.

Jane had suggested I brighten the light at the back. To make the streak of light in the back stand out enough I had to darken the whole foreground and reduce the contrast of the front shadow and the highlights on the trail. I think this photo actually looks darker than it really is. I'm beginning to think I should have done two paintings of the same scene, each with a different focus.
Today I went over to Betty's house and photographed her carpet from a low angle. Then I started experimenting with different designs - too many times on the canvas! But I think I like it better with the carpet although I will probably change the designs in the front some more. Then I'll work on the cat again and bring it up to a more finished level. Off to Las Cruces tomorrow so no painting for a couple of days.
